NEW YORK, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The 2026 FIFA World Cup will see seven pairs of brothers taking part - but less than half of them play for the same team.

The brothers who share a dressing room are defenders Lucas and Theo Hernandez for France, while midfielders Laros and Deroy Duarte represent Cabo Verde, and Leandro and Juninho Bacuna play for Curacao.

Meanwhile, four more pairs of brothers play for different teams, with Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey playing for the Netherlands, while his brother Derrick Luckassen, who represented the Netherlands at youth levels, has chosen to play for Ghana and was a late call-up into the squad.

Desire Doue has chosen to play for France while his brother Guela has chosen to represent his father's homeland of Cote d'Ivoire, and the two could possibly find themselves going head-to-head in the knockout stage of the tournament.

John Souttar and his brother Harry were both born in Scotland, but both are also eligible to represent Australia. John chose Scotland, while his 1.98-meter-tall brother Harry has become the tallest player ever to play for Australia.

Inaki and Nico Williams also play for different nations. Although both of them were born in Spain, Inaki opted to represent Ghana before the 2022 World Cup. Nico chose to play for Spain, scoring in a 2-1 win against England in the UEFA Euro 2024 final.
