Hantavirus Alert: Greek Traveler Placed in Isolation After Evacuation

A Greek citizen evacuated from the hantavirus-affected cruise ship MV Hondius has been placed in quarantine at Attikon University Hospital in Athens, according to reporting cited by Kathimerini.

The evacuation followed the ship's arrival in Tenerife, where passengers were disembarked after several confirmed infections linked to the outbreak. At least six cases have been identified so far among those connected to the vessel, including five earlier disembarked passengers and one American traveler who tested positive but has not developed symptoms.

The Greek national was among 26 passengers transferred to Eindhoven in the Netherlands on a Dutch evacuation flight on Sunday evening. From there, he was transported under medical supervision to Elefsina Military Airport aboard a Hellenic Air Force C-130 aircraft before being admitted to hospital care.

Authorities confirmed that the individual will remain in strict isolation for 45 days in a specially prepared negative pressure unit designed to prevent potential viral spread.

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said the patient showed no signs of infection and described the measure as precautionary. ?There is absolutely no reason for concern,? he stated, emphasizing that the quarantine was implemented purely as a preventive step.

Officials continue to stress that the passenger remains asymptomatic, while monitoring of all evacuated individuals from the cruise ship operation is ongoing across multiple countries.
