Qin Haiyang completes breaststroke golden double at Singapore Worlds

SINGAPORE, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Qin Haiyang completed a golden breaststroke double at the World Aquatics Championships on Friday, adding the men's 200-meter title to his 100m gold earlier in the meet.

Despite qualifying eighth for the final, Qin surged to victory in two minutes 7.41 seconds. Japan's Watanabe Ippei claimed silver in 2:07.70, while Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands finished just behind in 2:07.73.

The 26-year-old Qin stunned the swimming world at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, where he won four gold medals - including all three breaststroke events. However, he missed the 2024 Doha Worlds and returned from the Paris Olympic Games without an individual title.

Qin's win on Friday also marked his fourth medal in Singapore, having previously taken bronze in the 50m breaststroke and silver in the 4x100m mixed medley relay.
