TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran lost to Japan 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-19) in the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) opener on Tuesday.

Ishikawa Yuki led Japan with 20 points, while Amin Esmaeilnezhad scored 11 points for Iran.
Team Melli will also play Poland (Thursday), China (Saturday) and Slovenia (Sunday), respectively in the competition's Week 1 in Nagoya.
The Preliminary Phase campaign started on June 6 and includes matches in Nagoya (Japan), Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and Anaheim (USA).
If Iran qualifies for the VNL Finals, it will travel to Gdansk, Poland for the event from July 19 through 23.
