THE HAGUE, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Seventy-nine people were arrested in Rotterdam after Feyenoord lost the UEFA Europa League final to AS Roma 1-0 on Wednesday, the Dutch police announced on Thursday.
As the match was played in Tirana, Albania on Wednesday night, thousands of the Rotterdam-based club supporters gathered in Rotterdam to watch it on big screens in the Kuip stadium and elsewhere in the city.
After the final, groups of angry fans went on a rampage throwing firecrackers and torches. The windows of several shops were smashed and a tram and a bus were destroyed, according to local media reports.
Police intervened to restore order with the use of batons and water cannons.
