People in the UK county of Cumbria have had their lives totally disrupted in the past week due to devestating floods.

Rain continued to batter the area on Saturday with river levels still rising.

A number of bridges in Cumbria have been swept away and many roads have been closed.

Hundreds of people have spent time away from home in shelters and other parts of the country with rescue workers warn them that their dwellings could be unsafe.

They have been told not to return to their homes.

The town of Cockermouth was one of the worst affected areas.

Emergency services roamed the town when the floods were at their worst to rescue animals as well as people.

People who were evacuated from their homes to rescue centres last week have now seen flood waters subside in Cockermouth, with mud and debris now clogging the town.

A massive clear-up operation has been under way across Cumbria with police and rescue workers still trying to complete a search of 800 abandoned homes.
